Emily Copeland is currently finishing her final year of her BFA at Western University. Whilst cover a wide range of design discipline, Emily predominantly focuses on realism and the act of mimesis and aims to practice these techniques further. She uses photography and Photoshop to generate her reference images which is always her preliminary step and the stimulus when it comes to creating something original.
"Many artists from the Baroque era inspire me, such as Caravaggio, La Tour, and Velazque. It is their focus on mimesis; replicating what they see; and their contrasts with lighting that draws me to their works."
Finishing school in the next two months, Emily will be taking a year off to solely focus on her drawings, hoping to produce at least one large scale drawing per week.
